Be Careful, by Richard Halfacre. |
I am sure all of the members of Local 93 are aware of the tragic loss we suffered, when two of our members were killed on the job within a five month period. Brother Everett Harris in Knoxville and Brother Sammy Williams in Nashville. Since then there have been two more members lost to on the job accidents. One maintenance mechanic fell 21 floors, to the top of the elevator, in Atlanta, GA. Another brother in Beaumont, Texas fell 10 floors, when the counterweights of an adjacent running car, struck the temporary mechanic, knocking him off the hoistway divider beam he was standing on. Brothers, the most important job you have is to return home to your family and loved ones each day. There is no installation, no shutdown or callback more important than your safety. I am certain the employers feel the same way. If you observe any condition or you are asked to perform a task which you feel is unsafe, it is your duty to your family, friends and fellow members, to call your employer or the Locals office and report the problem. |
